Jaguar XJ updates and XJR575 flagship unveiled
Luxury saloon gets tech and safety updates as well as new flagship XJR575 priced from £93,710. Here’s what you need to know
Jaguar’s flagship saloon gets new technology, safety systems and a fire breathing new flagship model for 2017 (2018 model year).
Called the XJR575, it replaces the current XJR, gets an uprated version of the XJR’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine with output increased by 25bhp and 14lb ft of torque to 567bhp and 516lb ft, respectively.
Acceleration has been improved accordingly with the 0-62mph sprint reduced to 4.4 seconds (from 4.6 sec) and it’ll push on to a monstrous 186mph.
The XJR575 is available in two paint finishes created by the Special Vehicle Operations team; Velocity Blue and Satin Corris Grey.
It gets 20in Farollon gloss-black wheel with callipers finished in red, unique XRJ575 badging and twin bonnet louvres. It also gets a rear spoiler, side sills and front bumper.
On the inside, the XJR575 gets embossed tread plates, intalaglio and diamond-quilted seats which are available in either Jet/Jet and Ivory/Jet colour options.
The rest of the range benefits new interior and wheel options. The main update is the introduction of a larger 10in infotainment touchscreen which is clearer, offers pinch zoom functionality, wifi connectivity and can connect to up to eight devices.
Keeping the occupants, other road users and pedestrians little safer is a raft of new technology including; autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, driver condition monitor and forward traffic detection.
The new braking system works between speeds of three and 37mph by using a forward-facing camera to detect hazards. It can automatically apply the brakes when a collision is detected.
Lane keep assist provides steering input should the system detect the XJ drifting out of its lane without indicating.
Driver condition monitoring tracks driver involvement and should signs of fatigue be present, like lack of steering activity or sudden and excessive inputs, it will alert the driver to take a break.
Forward traffic detection aids drivers when visibility is limited, like when pulling out of a blind junction.
Available to order now, the updated XJ range starts from £59,995 with the new XJR575 costing from £93,710.
