All-new Hyundai Kona to be unveiled this June

New entry-level Hyundai SUV to rival the Nissan Juke when it hits our roads this autumn

Hyundai Kona Teaser

This summer will see the unveiling of Hyundai’s fourth SUV model, called the Kona, ahead of an autumnal launch.

The name Kona originates from a so-named Hawaiian town and in true Hawaiian fashion, the new sub-compact SUV will get muscular looks and the cascading (waterfall) grille.

The Kona will be instantly recognisable as a Hyundai but with its own character.

It’s based on the global platform found in the i20, although it’s been revised by around 50%. While it shares much from the i20 and will take some styling cues, it’ll also share characteristics with its big-brother Tucson SUV.

Seen for the first time in the teaser pick released this week, at the front, it gets Hyundai’s cascading grille, as seen on the latest i30, twin LED headlamps with daytime running lights across the top.

As well as the muscular appearance, it’ll have a typical high-riding SUV driving position.

It’ll be front wheel driven with the choice to opt for the optional four-wheel drive. Expect to see the firm’s latest 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines under the bonnet as well as a 1.6-litre diesel, all for the i30 family hatchback.

The new model continues Hyundai’s rapid growth and product refresh following the recently facelifted i10 (See review), all-new i20 (See review), all-new i30 (See review) and the excellent Ioniq (See review).
