2017 Mazda CX-3 refresh arrives this summer
CX-3 gets Mazda’s latest tech, refinement upgrades plus a new range-topping limited-run GT Sport trim
Nearly two years after its launch, Mazda has given its entry-level compact-SUV, the CX-3, a refresh in time for the summer.
Changes are focused on technology updates, improvements to ride, handling and refinement, while a limited-edition range-topping trim has been added called the GT Sport
Similar to the improvements seen in the Mazda3 and Mazda6 last year, the CX-3 gets suspensions, damper and steering tweaks to improve handling and ride as well as the introduction of G-Vectoring Control across the range.
This system adjusts the amount of torque sent to each wheel by monitoring steering and throttle inputs, to optimise performance, grip and cornering stability.
At the top of the tree is the new GT Sport trim which is only available with the more powerful 2.0-litre 150PS petrol engine. It costs either £22,895 or £24,095 with either a manual or automatic gearbox and is limited to just 500 models.
It gets the same standard equipment as the Sport Nav but adds styling cues, including front, side and rear skirts with silver inserts, a black rear roof spoiler and 18in alloy wheels. You can pick from ceramic metallic or meteor grey mica paint at no extra cost while the inside gets Nappa leather and unique GT-Line floor mats.
The revised CX-3 retains the entry-level 2.0-litre 120PS petrol engine. Both petrol engines get re-tuned engine mounts to reduce vibration into the cabin.
The 1.5-litre diesel now gets a feature called Transient Control which reduces turbo lag and boosts torque to give better throttle response. It’s also been adapted to reduce noise and start-up at low speeds.
Across the range, there’s a new steering wheel and extra sound insulation for improved refinement. while SE-L Nav trim and above get an updated city brake support system that can now detect pedestrians.
The updated CX-3 is expected to roll into showrooms in June or July this year priced from £18,495.
