2017 Opel/Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport Unveiled
Images of next year's Insignia replacement have been released ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut in March
Months ahead of its scheduled public debut, Vauxhall has unveiled images of its next generation Insignia executive saloon.
Not only does it get a new name, Insignia Grand Sport, but a new look has also been fashioned for the new car, featuring a more rakish profile and stylish front and rear ends.
The front has a more streamlined appearance with sleek headlights. There's an element of Mazda 6 in the design, while the side profile suggests more Volkswagen CC rather than Ford Mondeo.
At the back, wraparound taillights and a large rear bumper complete the look.
Inside, the images appear to show high-quality materials with plenty of leather and chrome detailing. The overall look is in line with that of the latest Astra.
Although roughly the same length as the current model, the Grand Sport gets a 29mm lower roof, 11mm wide track and 92mm longer wheelbase.
It's set to use lightweight materials which are said to reduce the car's weight by up to 175kg. It'll also get a new all-wheel drive system and eight-speed automatic gearbox.
New technologies being introduced include lane keep assist, intelligent LED headlights and active cruise control.
Set to become a more relaxing and comfortable riding car, it'll also get front and rear heated seats, a heated windscreen, plus the latest OnStar infotainment system.
“Vauxhall is raising its game even further with the launch of the new Insignia Grand Sport,” said Rory Harvey, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director. “It has all of the virtues of its successful smaller brother the Astra, and takes those to a higher level. The Insignia Grand Sport will set new standards for design, efficiency, technology and connectivity when it debuts next year at the Geneva Motor Show.”
Insignia Sports Tourer: Replacement for the current five-door estate is to gain extra space inside but with a more stylish look, featuring design cues from Opel/Vauxhall’s Monza Concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013.
