2018 Jaguar I-PACE electric vehicle concept unveiled
Jaguar has showcased its first EV as a high-performance luxury SUV. It’ll go on sale in 2018 and has its eyes fixed on Tesla

At a star-studded event in Los Angeles, held on the eve of the LA Auto Show, Jaguar unveiled its first purpose-built electric vehicle, the I-Pace.
Shown in production preview form, meaning it shouldn’t alter too much when it goes into production in 2018. The firm’s aim has been to create an electric car with supercar looks, sports car performance and SUV space.

Featuring Jaguar’s familiar rectangular grille and swept-back headlights, the I-Pace gets a sports car style bonnet, curvaceous body panels and a large slanted windscreen. At the back, there’s a sloping boot with roof mounted spoiler and narrow taillights similar to the Jaguar XF.
Inside, there’s a floating dash, airy and light feel due to the panoramic sunroof and a flat floor that will emphasise the feeling of space.
It gets all-wheel drive and will be powered by twin-electric motors that generate 700NM (516lb ft) of torque, fitted to a 90kWh battery, giving it a range up to 500km (310 miles). That’s F-Type SVR rivalling levels of torque meaning the I-Pace will hit 62mph from standstill in around 4.0 seconds.
Plug the I-Pace into any domestic socket across the globe and overnight it’ll have enough range for a 50km commute, however, a rapid charge using a 50 KW DC charging point takes a little over two hours.

Ian Callum, Director of Design at Jaguar, said: “The I-PACE Concept represents the next generation of electric vehicle design. It’s a dramatic, future-facing cab-forward design with a beautiful interior – the product of authentic Jaguar DNA, electric technology and contemporary craftsmanship. He added: “The interior of the I-PACE Concept is finished with beautiful, premium materials and an unwavering attention to detail. Throughout the interior you will discover a host of beautiful details to surprise and delight. From the expansive panoramic glass roof to the sporting, beautifully finished seats, every feature bears the hallmark of British craftsmanship.
It’ll be on the road in 2018, however, customers can register their interest now at www.jaguar.com.
