2017 Mitsubishi ASX gets refreshed

Mitsubishi’s entry-level crossover gets minor styling tweaks, new upholstery and renamed trims and is on sale now

2017 Mitsubishi ASX

The Japanese manufacturer, Mitsubishi, has announced that its smallest SUV come crossover will get an update to take it into the New Year, with prices starting from £15,999.

Headlining the update is the new grille design, which realigns the ASX to the look of its big brother, the Outlander, which got its own facelift at this autumn’s Paris Motor Show.

The ‘Dynamic Shield” grille features a gloss black central section that houses the registration plate, and chrome detailing on either side. On the rear section of the roof, there’s now a shark-fin antenna while a new “Lightning Blue” exterior paint finish (as seen in the photos here) has been added.

Inside, the ASX gets new seat upholstery and revised seat cushions while trim levels are renamed to ASX2, ASX3, ASX4 and ASX5.

Diesel lineup consists of 1.6-litre and 2.2-litre engines. The entry-level 1.6-litre turbo develops 112bhp and 119lb ft of torque and comes fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox. Available in either front-wheel or with four-wheel drive, it’ll return between 56.5-61.4mpg and emit 119-132g/km of CO2, with the front-wheel drive returning the better figures.

The range-topping 2.2-litre turbo diesel gets on-demand four-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic gearbox, which will return 48.7mpg and emit 152g/km of CO2.

Trim levels start with the entry-level ASX2 rising to ASX5. ASX2 gets; 16in alloy wheels; air con; Bluetooth; USB with iPhone compatibility; electric windows; and rear privacy glass.
