2017 Mazda CX-5 gets World premiere at LA Auto Show
Mazda has unveiled an all-new version of its mid-sized SUV at the Los Angeles show ahead of sales starting in February
It might only be four years old but Mazda is replacing its European best seller, the CX-5, with an all-new version which is due in early 2017.
Taking its bow on the world stage for the first time at the 2016 LA Auto Show, the new mid-sized SUV is based on Mazda’s latest design philosophy, Kodo. This aims to give the CX-5 a purposeful stance along with a sensual appearance that expresses forward momentum.
Mazda is aiming to blend driving involvement with passenger comfort, ensuring that the interior is well made and isolates outside noise.
It’ll arrive with a choice of three engines, two petrol and one diesel. The petrols consist of a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre and SKYACTIV-G 2.5-litre while the diesel has a SKYACTIV-D 2.2-litre engine.
As seen in the latest Mazda 3 and Mazda 6, the new CX-5 gets G-Vectoring control. This system adjusts the amount of torque sent to the wheels by monitoring steering and throttle inputs. It can reduce torque to each wheel to optimise performance and grip.
Other new features include a new windscreen head-up display, a remote-controlled electric boot and a new Soul Red Crystal premium paint colour which gets applied in three coats for a unique appearance.
On sale in February 2017 in Japan, the CX-5 will then be rolled out across other Mazda markets around the world, with a mid-2017 UK arrival expected.
The LA Auto Show runs from 18 November through to 27 November and is held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre.
