Citroen CXPERIENCE stars at the Paris Motor Show
Citroen luxury EXPERIENCE CONCEPT points the way for how future C5 and C6 executive saloons could look
The EXPERIENCE CONCEPT stared at this year's Paris Motor Show, showcasing how future Citroens could look.
The five-door car brings a new approach to the large luxury hatchback segment with distinctive styling and hybrid powertrains.
The concept stands at 4.85m long and 2.0m wide and is low at 1.37m tall. It has a 3.0m long wheelbase with short overhangs. The concept is finished in pearlescent sea green "Mizuiro" paint with 5-spoke 22-inch wheels.
It’ll be powered by a hybrid plug-in system using a petrol engine developing between 148 and 197bhp connected to an electrical motor producing up to 80 kW of energy from a 3 kW battery, all linked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
With an all-electric range of 40 miles, a recharge will take 4.5 hours with a standard charging system, or under 2.5 hours with an ultra-simple charging solution based on a 6.6 kW charger designed for connection to a 32A socket.
It’s instantly recognisable as a Citroen. The concept gets a narrow grille between the Citroen Chevrons that stretch the width of the car and link into the new V-shaped daytime running lights.
Low down on the front bumper are controllable air intakes which open and close as required to aid aerodynamics. The rear window is concave and a roof fin aims at improving the concepts sleekness through the air.
The rear doors are rear-hinged to open in the style of suicide doors - think Rolls-Royce Phantom - and provide a 90-degree opening, with the wing mirror being replaced for cameras.
Other than the concave rear screen, there are 3D taillights with laser fibre optics, also to match the headlight there are in a V-shape. As seen on the latest C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso, the rear chevrons get a black lacquer finish.
Inside, the CXPERIENCE CONCEPT has a swooping dash, which flows from door to door, a head-up display and a 19in touchscreen. Walnut wood completes the look with a yellow fabric trim finish.
The 19in display controls the air con, sat nav, entertainment and driver aids. The screen can be split in 1/3 - 2/3 or 2/3 - 1/3 between the driver and passenger. It will also link to Citroen’s latest ConnectedCAM infotainment technology.
Rear passengers will have access to a mobile tablet to control the air con and adjust their seats.
According to Citroen, the "CXPERIENCE CONCEPT is a concept car bearing the product and styling markers of future Citroën cars. Rather than previewing a particular model, it serves as a laboratory of ideas."
