2017 Bentley Bentayga Diesel
New diesel engine to offer 621-mile range, lowest CO2 emissions for a Bentley and sports car rivalling acceleration
Bentley has confirmed that its first ever diesel engine will be introduced into the Bentayga luxury-SUV early in 2017.
It’ll use a 4.0-litre V8 engine, fitted with three turbochargers, resulting in it producing 429bhp and 664lb ft of torque. The huge SUV gets sports car troubling pace with zero to 60mph taking just 4.6 seconds.
Importantly, Bentley has worked to ensure that the diesel still performs like an authentic Bentley should, with peak torque arriving at a lowly 1,000rpm, while the turbos take just 30 microseconds to spool up, essentially eliminating turbo lag.
It’ll also have the lowest CO2 emissions of any Bentley at 210g/km. The diesel will achieve 35.8mpg on a combined cycle and coupled with an 85-litre fuel tank, offer a single tank range of 621 miles. That’s enough to go from London to Verbier without having to stop and refuel, just check the fuel stations there are open and stocked with diesel before you arrive.
The Bentayga Diesel has an eight-speed automatic gearbox and permanent all-wheel drive system with a 40:60 power split bias to the rear.
On the outside, it gets a V8 diesel badge on the front doors, quad rear tailpipes, black matrix grille with chrome surround and central bar and 20in 10-spoke alloy wheels.
Customer deliveries start in Europe in early 2017 with Russia, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan following later in the year.
