2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain
Mercedes unveiled a crossover version of its latest E-Class executive estate at the Paris Motor Show to rival Audi and Volvo
At the Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz unveiled its first-ever crossover version of the E-Class Estate. Called the E-Class All-Terrain, featuring rugged body styling, a raised ride height and 4matic all-wheel drive.
It’ll be a key rival to the already well-established Audi Allroad and Volvo Cross Country, although there’s a new V90 version arriving around the turn of the year.
The E-Class All-Terrain is 29mm taller than the standard estate version, 14mm of which is due to the change in tyre depth. A selectable air suspension has three settings from normal up to +35mm to provide that additional ground clearance when needed.
On the outside, the E-Class gets SUV styling cues, including Mercedes’ SUV-style two-fin grille and integrated badge. It also features butcher bumpers with chrome look skid plates, 19in alloy wheels, beefed-up sills and grey plastic finish to the bumpers and wheel arches.
Inside, it gets All-Terrain lettering, aluminium-carbon trim, sports pedals and unique floor mats.
Powering the All-Terrain is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine (called E220 d) which develops 191bhp and is connected to a nine-speed automatic gearbox with power being sent to all-four wheels with 4matic. A six-cylinder engine will be added to the range later.
The E-Class All-Terrain has a Dynamic Select function which allows you to choose from five settings for the engine, transmission, traction and steering. A specific All-Terrain mode provides settings suitable for off-road driving.
UK deliveries will start in Spring 2017.
