2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R and GT and GT C Roadsters - prices and specs
Mercedes has confirmed the prices and specifications for it flagship and extended GT lineup as sales begin
Following its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in September, Mercedes has confirmed the prices and specifications for its extended GT sports car range.
Available for the first time as a roadster, the drop top version is priced from £110,145 in standard guise, while a more potent C version costs from £139,445.
There's also a new hard top available, the mighty AMG GT R, with prices starting at £143,245.
This is the first time that the two-door sports car has been offered in open-top form. Its roof is electronically operated and consists of three layers of fabric. It can be lowered and raised in around 11 seconds, at speeds up to 31mph and is available in three colour choices; black, red and beige.
The roof is supported by a magnesium/steel/aluminium structure while rollover protection consisting of integrated aluminium cross-member with rollover bars has been added. The body of the GT has also been strengthened following the removal of the roof and including reinforced side skirts, a cross-member behind the seats and the dashboard has extra fixings around the windscreen.
Both the GT and GT C are powered by the same 4.0-litre biturbo V8 petrol engine. The standard GT gets 469bhp and 465lb ft of torque, resulting in a 0-62mph time of 4.0 seconds. It'll return 30.1mpg on a combine cycle and emits 219g/km of CO2.
The GT C is even more powerful with 549bhp and 502ft lbs of torque and has a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds, returning 24.8mpg and emitting 259g/km of CO2.
Both cars come with a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT sport transmission which offers 3 settings in the GT (Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus) with Race setting added to the GT C. There is also a manual setting for the driver to take full control.
The AMG GT C has a more aggressive look to set it apart from its lesser-powered sibling, including a new front bumper with larger air inlets and a more pronounced and wider shoulder line.
It also gets an electronically controlled locking differential at the rear axle improving traction and cornering speeds at the limit.
Aiding lower speed handling is an active rear axle steering system, which turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels to improve agility at speeds up to 62mph. It’ll also reduce its turning circle, making it easy to manoeuvre around town and park.
Featuring AMG Ride Control, it provides a continuously variable, adaptive damping system, which automatically adapts to the road conditions and the car’s speed for optimum handling.
The GT Roadster gets either 19in alloy wheels, wind deflector, AMG Performance exhaust, heated sports seats and Nappa leather.
while the GT C has the option of either 19in or 20in AMG light-alloy wheels, Burmeister sound system, parktronic, Airscarf, active air control and an AMG performance steering wheel.
The range topping AMG GT R generates 577bhp and 700NM lb ft of torque, meaning in explodes to 62mpg from standstill in just 3.6 seconds. It'll return 24.8mpg on a combined cycle and emits 259g/km of CO2.
It gets bucket seats, a carbon fibre roof, bodykit, rear spoiler, partronic, sports steering wheel and performance exhaust system.
Premium and track packages are also available at £4,195 and £1,685 while carbon ceramic brakes can be added for £5,995.
First customer deliveries will start in May 2017.
