Audi Q2 is ready for collection
The order book is now open for Audi’s smallest SUV, the Q2, as specification and prices are confirmed with deliveries starting in November 2016
Audi has opened its order books for the highly anticipated Q2 compact SUV, at the same time confirming prices and specifications, with the first customer's receiving their Q2s from November 2016.
The Q2 becomes the entry-level SUV in the Audi stable, taking over from the Q3, and completes the SUV lineup with its big brothers the Q5 and Q7.
Despite being the baby of the range, it shares most of its underpinning with the A3 hatchback. It’s shorter than the A3 but longer than the A1, filling the gap between the two as its number designation suggests it should.
It’s due to compete in an ever-expanding class which includes key rivals, the Mini Countryman and Nissan Juke, both of which offer, at least looks wise, something away from the mainstream.
At launch, the Q2 will be available in three trim options – SE, Sport, S Line – with Edition #1 coming, peculiarly, a month later. Each trim can be combined with either of the two engines available at launch, a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol that produces 148bhp and a 1.6-litre TDI turbo diesel that kicks out 113bhp.
Both engines come fitted to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, however a seven-speed DSG automatic is available on the petrol and costs £1,450. Interestingly, both versions are only available with front-wheel drive only. The 1.4-litre is claimed to achieve 54.3mpg and emit 119g/km of CO2 with the diesel figures being 64.2mpg and 114g/km, respectively.
If you can wait for your Q2, then you may want to consider the 2.0 TDI diesel with 148bhp that’s available from September and can be selected with optional Quattro all-wheel drive.
The Q2 model list swells later in the year when Audi drops its new 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol, developing 114bhp, under the bonnet. There’s an additional diesel to come in the form of a 2.0 TDI developing 187bhp and furthermore, a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol scheduled for mid-2017.
So what do you get in the Q2? Well, both the SE and Sport models get contrasting lower front bumpers, side skirts and wheel arches, while all models get four colour choices for the rear roof (c-) pillar, although some colours are optional extras.
SE trim gets air conditioning, a 7.0in infotainment screen with MMI controller, Audi’s smartphone interface with Apple Carplay, Bluetooth connectivity, progressive steering and 16in alloys wheels.
Adding to that, Sport trim comes with 17in alloy wheels, Audi Drive Select, sports seats, auto lights and wipers, and cruise control for an additional £1,550.
S Line models get sportier front and rear bumpers and deeper side sills, 18in alloys, LED head and tail lights and part-leather sports seats, costing £3,800 more than SE trim.
The range-topping Edition #1 is finished in unique Quantum grey paint with lower body parts finished in contrasting Manhattan grey and a black finish to the c-pillars, grille, mirror housings and rear diffuser. The Edition #1 gets 19in diamond cut alloy wheels, front sports seats dressed in Fine Nappa leather with contrasting stitching.
Prices start from £22,380 for 1.4 TFSI SE, rising to £31,170 for the Edition #1. However, following the introduction of the 1.0-litre petrol engine later this year, starting prices fall to £20,230.
